EVALUATE THE SITE

How will the site influence the structure you wish to build? Pergolas require firm ground for posts and post footings. Ground water and rain water should drain clear of the posts or any part of the structure. Excessive ground seepage could require changing the slope of the land. Also consider what ground finish you must allow for, ie. pavers, concrete, gravel.

The picture shows a typical pergola construction. The ledger is attached directly to the house and the rafters are positioned on top of both the ledger and the beam, with a slight slope away from the house.

If the house is of brick construction, the ledger is attached to the bricks using dynabolts or locksuns (600mm spacing). If the house is cladded or of fibro construction, the ledger is attached to the existing wall studs using coachscrews.

Alternate rafter placement for metal facias. If these two ledger placements do not apply to your situation - contact our office for further alternate placement plans.

Posts (sawn 100x100, F7 KD 90x90) are mounted on galvanised post stands, either embeded in concrete or bolted to concrete footings.

Beams onto Posts
Notch out posts too allow the beam to be fully housed. Mount beam and drill through beam and posts. Secure with 2 galvanised cup head bolts.

Rafters onto Beams
Rafter can be top mounted for flush mounted as shown below.
